Root ectomycorrhizal status of oak trees symptomatic and asymptomatic for Acute Oak Decline in southern Britain

چکیده

Acute Oak Decline (AOD) is a decline-disease that has distinctive symptoms and poses serious threat to oak. Our understanding of the causal factors AOD remains poor but it likely multiple biotic abiotic contribute deterioration in oak condition. There evidence indications above-ground tree health status are frequently reflected below-ground roots associated ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungal communities. However, no study yet explored these potential relationships specifically affected trees. In this study, we compare composition range functional exploration types ECM communities with symptomatic trees asymptomatic three oak-dominated woodlands southern England. We additionally assess abundance fine root tips surface soils beneath consider soil physico-chemical effects on The frequency was found be significantly higher compared two studied long-distance had weak positive association diversity were, however, unaffected by symptom were not related tips. compositional (but type) differences evident only between different small number chemistry variables. This revealed relationship (i.e. stem lesions Agrilus biguttatus exit holes) live tips, providing additional diagnostic tool decline highlighting importance considering belowground rhizosphere microbiome .

Seasonal and Site Effects on Oak Fine Root Production and Ectomycorrhizal Colonization in California Oak Woodland

At three sites in a blue oak woodland in northeast California, we studied seasonal patterns of blue oak (Quercus douglasii Hook and Arn.) fine root (< 2 mm diameter) production and ectomycorrhizal (ECM) colonization using root ingrowth cores. In a short-term study, ingrowth cores were installed and harvested in 3-month intervals for one year. Oak fine root production was lower in fall and winte...

Effect of tree decline and slope aspect on the leaf morphological traits of Persian oak trees

This study was accomplished with the aim of investigating the effects of tree decline and slope aspect on leaf morphological traits and determining the indicator morphological traits that indicate the leaf diversity of Persian oak trees in relation to habitat conditions and environmental stresses in Mellah Siah forests of Ilam. Two forest habitats were selected on the northern and southern slop...

Oak trees decline; a sign of climate variability impacts in the west of Iran

The Persian oak, Quercus brantii, trees in the Zagros region of Western Iran have been in decline since 2000. The decline is assumed to be highly connected with changes in meteorological parameters. Our objectives were to quantify the long-term trends in meteorological parameters and reference evapotranspiration (ET0) in the Zagros region and estimate ecohydrological parameters highly affected ...

Taxonomy and identification of bacteria associated with acute oak decline

Acute oak decline (AOD) is a relatively newly described disorder affecting native oak species in Britain. Symptomatic trees are characterised by stem bleeds from vertical fissures, necrotic lesions in the live tissue beneath and larval galleries of the two spotted oak buprestid (Agrilus biguttatus). Several abiotic and biotic factors can be responsible for tree death, however the tissue necrosi...

Hyperdiversity of ectomycorrhizal fungus assemblages on oak seedlings in mixed forests in the southern Appalachian Mountains.

Diversity of ectotrophic mycobionts on outplanted seedlings of two oak species (Quercus rubra and Quercus prinus) was estimated at two sites in mature mixed forests in the southern Appalachian Mountains by sequencing nuclear 5.8S rRNA genes and the flanking internal transcribed spacer regions I and II (ITS). The seedlings captured a high diversity of mycorrhizal ITS-types and late-stage fungi w...
